Our 1st XV put in a great performance in the final of the Hampshire Plate on Saturday, but it wasn't quite enough to cause an upset.

The Plate holders Fareham Heathens finished third in Hampshire Division 1, while we narrowly avoided relegation, so they were the clear favourites.

Both sides exchanged penalties in the first half, before the Heathens scored a try in the last play of the half to give them an 8-3 lead at the break.

The first fifteen minutes of the second half saw the Heathens score three converted tries too open up a 29 - 3 lead and the game looked over, but our lads had other ideas. We were able to dominate the last twenty minutes of the game. Our young wing three quarter Jack Galton scored two good tries, one of which was converted. Charlie Cockram then added a further try to close the gap to 20-29, but time ran out and the Heathen were able to retain the trophy.
