The U18 girls signed off their RFU Plate competition last weekend with a couple of hard fought games in the last round robin of the competition. Drawn in a group with Herts Ba Ba's (a team combining several different clubs) and Gosford, the girls were always going to find it hard to progress in the competition needing to win both games handsomely, due to previous results.
The first match was against Herts, and despite going 3 tries down in quick succession, our girls fought back bravely and skilfully to bring the score to Herts 24- 21 ERRFC just after half time. However, with our team tiring and no subs to bring on and Herts able to call on numerous replacements, eventually the Herts side ran out winners with a final score of Herts 45-21 ERRFC. Special mention to Lizzie, Maggie and Georgina for their tries and great conversions from Phoebe.
In the second match against Gosford our girls really demonstrated their tenacity and quality. Despite spirited resistance from Gosford, out forwards quickly got on top and began to dominate possession. MC, Maya and Jemma were particularly notable in their aggressive rucking and along with Lottie and Eleanor's contribution at the scrum and line out, ensured good quick ball to the backs. Phoebe and Lizzie ensured great continuity at half back, allowing the pace of Alice, Georgina and Maggie to be unleashed. Eventually the girls ran out comfortable winners by 56-14, with tries from Georgina (2), Phoebe (4), Maggie, Maya and Lizzie and conversions from Georgina and Phoebe.
This leaves them with an overall second place in the group and is a strong finish to the competition by the u18 who should be very proud of their achievements.
