The RFU (Rugby Football Union) have been reminding clubs of their duty of care when it comes to coaching and managing junior players. It is required by the RFU that anyone who helps out with junior rugby is CRB checked. This includes not only the coaches and official helpers, but also those mums and dads who stand at the end of the relay races passing balls back and forth, even if they already have CRB's through their jobs - the club need an ERRFC specific certificate.
This isn't as ominous as it may sound as the club take care of everything and the test can be done online at the clubhouse during training - it only takes 15 minutes or so.
As you can imagine, this leaves us with a potential headache in that we as coaches might need to adapt the activities and session so only CRB checked people are involved. As you can imagine, this might mean the end of the relays which the kids seem to really enjoy.
If you are willing to put your name down as a helper, even if you only expect to stand in a line on a very infrequent basis, please speak to Duncan, Alex or Andy on a Sunday so we can get your check arranged - the club pays and it won't take much of your time, and it could make a huge difference to the player's enjoyment. Thank you!!
And more help required... On October 27th, it is the turn of the U6's to man the kitchens for teas / coffees etc. On this day, several of the teams who normally use PBL on a Sunday will be away at a tournament, so the refreshments queue will be fairly short. We need two volunteers, so if you don't mind making the odd tea or coffee for fellow parents (and bacon sarnie if you feel that brave), then please let one of the coaches know asap. More thanks!!
And finally; we're a few weeks into the season now, and player registrations should now be completed and memberships paid. If you need a registration form (and photo consent form) please either use the attached forms or speak to one of the coaches on Sunday. Even more thanks!!
