Ellingham havant got the bonus point

Ellingham & Ringwood welcomed league leaders Havant 2nd XV to their ground after a break of two weeks. In a tight opening where both sides tested out their respective defensive lines, it was Havant who following the first of Ellingham's 14 first half penalties decided to kick for goal and took the lead after eight minutes. Ellingham tested Havant's defence and shortly after taking a three-point lead winger Christ Frost attempted to level the scores with a penalty, unfortunately he just missed the uprights. Ellingham could not convert their pressure into points and in the 28th minute Havant's winger Christopher Buckett cut a good line and dived over to score the first try of the match although the conversion went wide.

Ellingham fought back throught hard carrying epitomised by man of the match Connor Scott (pictured) and returning centre Danny Patrice smashed through Havant's defence and scored a well worked try, this time Chris Frost was accurate with his kick and added the two points to narrow the lead. Unfortunately Ellingham could not improve on this score before the half time whistle and from giving away another penalty Havant took advantage with Wiliam Double playing in the second row for the away team dived over to double Havant's try tally at the Specsavers end of the ground giving Alan Steel head coach food for thought at half time.

Unfortunately Tyler Grant playing in the second row for the home team had to be withdrawn at half time due to failing a concussion test, to be replaced by returning flanker Ted Johnson with Dean Smith moving into the second row. In the 41st minute of the game Ellingham's defence was left napping, with prop and man of the match Jeremy Smith crashing over for a good try which was converted. Havant continued to apply the pressure and showed why they are unbeaten this season with their number eight Ashleigh Wakefield diving over to increase their lead and again the conversion was successful. Then in the 53rd minute Havant scored another try to extend their lead, although the conversion was unsuccessful.

In the 60th minute Danny Patrice was replaced by Dan Stewart in the centres and he made an immediate impact the home team attacking the Specsavers end on the blindside in front of a large crowd and avoided their attempts to tackle him to score an opportunistic try. Frost was able to slot the conversion to narrow the margin. Ellingham continued to apply the pressure and scored their third try of the game when full back Chris Jeffes cut a lovely line to score in the corner to the delight of the home crowd, Frost was unlucky not to convert for the extra two points as the ball sailed just past the uprights.

Unfortunately, Ellingham were then caught chasing a fourth try bonus pointby Havant who added a further three tires to their tally one of which was converted with one being scored by their scrum half Robert Hume who had a fine game to increase their lead to 51 points. The home team strived to get a much desevered fourth try to at least secure a bonus point for their endeavours, with what turned out to the last play of the game the home team attacked down the left flank with Ted Johnson and Chris Jeffes both free the pass somehow bisected them both and went into touch. The referee blew his whistle to mark the end of the game with the final score being Ellingham & Ringwood 19 - Havant 2nd XV 51.
